This site documents my work completing the cumulative project for
EDUC 763 Instruction Design for Online Learning.
Directions for this project are found below. My response can be read in the pages that follow.
Designing at a micro level would be organizing one unit of instruction. In the micro sense, you are more concerned about the details of one unit; content delivered, the finer points of assessment, communication strategies, and so on.
You should be able to design for both. While you need to be able to organize one week or one lesson at a time, it has to be placed within the context of the whole course.
You will do this by working through a design document for planning one unit (one week, one module) of instruction for online delivery.
DESIGN DOCUMENT TEMPLATE
NAME AND NATURE OF THE COURSE: Provide a brief description of the course and whether this is intended to be delivered wholly online or as part of a hybrid or blended course structure.
STUDENT ANALYSIS: Referring back to Module Two, briefly describe your learners.
Highlight important characteristics, learning styles and qualities that might impact the decisions you make about what to include in your course.
GOALS/OBJECTIVES: Referring back to Module Three, list two or three specific objectives for the unit.
INSTRUCTIONAL ACTIVITIES/STRATEGIES First, include a statement of the ways you are delivering content (Refer to Module 5). Then, referring to Modules Two, Three and Six, what are you going to ask students to do and why?
Make a direct and explicit link between your activities, your objectives, and how this fits with your view of learning. If you connect with one particular theory or model, say why!
For each activity, indicate whether you already have this content available and to what extent you will need to make modifications for online delivery.Show us one activity in web-based form. For example, if you want to use a podcast, produce it. If you want to use web-based PowerPoint, create it! If you have a link to an awesome learning object, share it. If you are including an assignment, create the web page that describes the assignment and gives students instructions.
ASSESSMENT AND EVALUATION: In what ways will you measure student learning? What are your plans for providing feedback? Will feedback be summative or formative?
In what ways will you evaluate the effectiveness of this instructional unit?
SUPPORTING MECHANISMS: Refer to Module Four. While these might not be directly related to this unit’s instruction, list and describe any other supports you would build into your course design. Examples might be a calendar of activities due dates, web links to tutorials, resources to learn more about plagiarism, direct links to tech support, etc.
SUPPORTING COLLEAGUES AND SERVICES: Refer to Module Six. Who will you need to connect to in order to accomplish your plan?
Plan evaluation: Refer to Module Seven. To what extent does your one week instructional unit meet the broad criteria you selected in Module Seven? Evaluate your own plan!
What modifications would you have to make for your plans to synch up with your preferred criteria?
