Introduction: Welcome to the practicum for the UW-Stout E-learning and Online Teaching Certificate Program. The emphasis will be on understanding practical applications of theory, methods, skills, as you do the real work of teaching online during your E-Learning Internship. Each of you will be either teaching in one of UW-Stout's online classes or working directly with me as you teach a course for another institution.
One on One Conversations & Formal Reflections Our weekly routine will be dominated by a private one-on-one conversation. You and I will discuss the event(s) of your week. Three times during the semester I ask you to do a formal reflection. You are also encouraged to post informal reflections & questions in this private conversation.
Annotated Readings Another 'routine' of our time together will be reviewing the professional reading you have done during your coursework in the certificate program. We'll focus on depth, this time around. You'll be asked to choose one substantial reading that you feel best applies to your internship and your e-learning interests. (I've assembled a library of most course readings.) These formal annotations are due midweek. See the course calendar for due dates.
Scenario Discussions There is a lot to be gained by discussing real world problems that occur in online classrooms. On an 'every other week' basis we will share 'scenarios' we have encountered as e-learning students and teachers. This is a frank conversations about the strategies and tactics of teaching online. See the course calendar for due dates.
E-portfolio Revision You've been reading, writing, discussing and building learning experiences throughout your coursework. Now is the time to revise and expand your e-portfolios. The purpose of the e-portfolio is to help you find work as an online instructor. The audience for your portfolio will be potential employers. Few teachers have online teaching experience. Even fewer have e-portfolios that demonstrate their understanding and competency in our field. This work will help you land a job! This is the major project due at the end of your practicum.
