Pima Community College

At the same time, the College has taken the lead in developing a sophisticated and wide-ranging delivery of online programming. We're offering more courses online and increasing the number of hybrid classroom/web-based learning formats. Last year, the College had over 12,000 enrollments in online classes and more than 4,000 enrollments in hybrid courses in over 40 academic subjects.

Excellent organization and great comment on the hybrid page:

Hybrid courses are NOT "condensed" courses. The online portion of a hybrid course requires the same number of “contact hours” as face-to-face class time.
Hybrid courses can be challenging. To be successful, you should be comfortable using computers and the Internet. You also need excellent time management skills and self-motivation to stay current with the class calendar. You need to read assignments and directions carefully, and keep up with class reading.

Austin Community College

At Austin Community College, there are two types of Hybrid formats: HYD — Hybrids offered through Distance Learning, and HYC — Classroom Hybrids.
  • HYD — Distance Learning Hybrids have the majority (51% or more of the time) of their course work offered online via the Internet, with some classroom and/or laboratory meeting times.
Example: Instructor and students meet four times a semester on campus.
  • HYC — Classroom Hybrids are taught 50% on campus and 50% online. (Classes taught on campus more than 50% of the time and having less than a 50% online component are considered on-campus classes.)
Example: One day each week, students meet on campus for the lecture portion of the class; the remainder of the coursework is completed online independently.
Arizona State University

A hybrid course combines face-to-face instruction and web- or computer-based learning in an educational environment that is non-specific as to time and place. Common features of hybrid courses include the delivery of the syllabus, lectures, readings and assignments on web pages; discussions and presentations through online message boards, e-mail and chat software; interactive tutorials and labs; and on-line assessments (or any combination of the above). In a hybrid class, a significant part of the course interaction takes place online and students can expect to spend at least as much time as they would in an on-campus section of the course.

Comment from classmate in EDUC 764

"Our campus offers space to Lakeland College (for evening/weekend course offerings). I know they offer 'Blended' courses which allow students to choose on a weekly basis whether they want to come to class or participate via on-line. I personally don't teach in this environment; however, my opinion is what a 'tough' task for lesson plans not knowing who is going to be where on a given week. The contact person at Lakeland College on the WR campus is Keith Rutlin.

On another note, last fall when I offered my first Intro to Corrections on-line I did not receive official approval to move from f2f to on-line until the week before school started. So, I had the studentsmeet in class week one for an orientation to the cms. To make a long story short, I had to go through steps to overcome the perception by management that my class was not a hybrid (this would have affected my workload calculation). "
