Instructional activities/strategies - E Learning for Educators

Include a statement of the ways you are delivering content.

This content is delivered in the 11th week of a 15 week semester. This is the second week of unit 4 - Fiscal Policy.

As indicated below, students will first read the 24 pages in chapter 21 of the text. Second, the students will view the two online tutorials for vhapter 20 ( a review of key material) and then chapter 21. Each tutorial lasts less than 10 minutes and includes audio explanation coupled with a flash tutorial. Finally, students will review the posted review outline for chapters 20 and 21.

Assuming a normal rate of reading these content delivery activities should take:

ActivityTime
Reading60 - 100 minutes
Tutorials20 - 60 minutes
Outlines20 - 40 minutes
Discussions20 - 40 minutes
Self-reflection20 - 40 minutes
Total140 - 280 minutes

Comment about time. I often have students . . . comment or complain about the time required for the online version of ECN 211 Macoreconomcis. The above time range indicates that, to complete these objectives which are to comprise one week of instruction should take no more that 3 to 3 1/2 hours. If a student was taking the class in traditional face to face environment, they would be in class for 150 minutes and would hopefully be spending a like amount of time outside class.

So the planned time demand for this instructional plan does not appear accessive.

Delivery Activities

1. Read chapter 21 in Principles of Macroeconomics by Gregory Mankiw

2. View and listent to the online tutorial (see directions at attached to this page and found at the end of this page).
3. View the online review
4. Respond to the discussion posting (see below)

5. Complete a self reflection

Make a direct and explicit link between your activities, your objectives, and how this fits with your view of learning.
If you connect with one particular theory or model, say why!

Objective/goal 1 - reading of text material.

Objectives 1, 2 and 3 require prior knowledge. That is, in order to define, calculate and apply the three concepts, students will need information to contextualize this new information and then connect this new information to existing knowledge or information.

Reading will provide the background information for the new information as well as a framework or scaffold to hang this new information on.

Objective/goal 2 - audio and visual online tutorial. This activity recognizes that learners have different learning styles and that learning can be faciliated through repetition. Thus, this online tutorial makes use of audio to explain and apply new material and makes use of images in flash to reinforce this material. This activity then provides variety to all students (more animation than the more passive activity of reading) and allows to audio learners.

Objective/goal 3 - reading outlines. This provides a type of review for students as well as self check.
