In week three of EDUC 760 we moved from the Course Management System used by UofW Stout to delivery online courses to a moodle to experiment with the tools available for online instruction.

Part of that week's activities required of participants was to shift from student mode to teacher mode, create and manage an online discussion.

Below find the two discussions that I created and faciliated.

Discussion 1

Our review of Web 2.0 in module 3 opens up a strange new world of online tools and applications. Based upon your reading of Web 2.0 tools for students (lets try that point of view) what is one task you can immediately think of that would be facilitated by these student tools?

Discussion 2

This discussion was modeled on the Reading and Analysis format used by the instructors of EDUC 760. Below is one of the three questions used in this discussion forum.

In Strategies for facilitating critical thinking Stephen Brookfield provides a rationale and a set of strategies to assist learners improve their critical thinking. Critique 2 or 3 of these strategies and provide an example from your classroom experience to illustrate your evaluation of the strategy.

EDUC 760 made considerable use of discussion during the course of the Fall, 2007 semester.

In your view, how effective has this managed discussion been in advancing your learning and, more importantly, what have you learned about the faciltation of discussion?
