Module Five: In the Beginning... There is a critical phase in any online course bounded by the period before the class begins through the first week. Approximately 70% of an instructor’s effort takes place during this time period. Preparation and communication are the keys to success in all types of education, but most especially in online education. Module Five Objectives Course participants will:

• Be able to explain the 70-30 rule.

• Analyze why the first week is important in an online course and describe strategies to make this critical period a success.
