| A descriptive analysis of the structure and functioning of the American economy. Emphasis on basic economic institutions and factors that determine national income and employment levels. Consideration given to the macroeconomic topics of national income, unemployment, inflation and monetary and fiscal policies. Below are the official course competencies and "recommended" course outline. I teach this class to an audience of non economics majors in both traditional face to face settings, hybrid settings and entirely online delivery formats. Class delivery ranges from 16 weeks in the fall and spring semesters, to 5 weeks during the summer sessions to 4 weeks during the winter intersession. I approach the class as an opportunity to develop the economic way of thinking in my students, allow them to evaluate their world from the lense of economic analysis and to evaluate the decisions make in their environment.
