Week 4 – Reflection

Reflection 4 - E Learning for Educators
This week I continue to be impressed with the versatility of moodle and am a tad frustrated that I have not mastered more of the features. Nancy Boyd did a great lesson and I loved the way she was able to find the appropriate moodle feature to consolidate the directions, lesson and quiz. My effort as a teacher was a decent start but, as often happens when I am in a new application I invested more time in form than in substance. This is a continuing tension for me as I work to stay abreast (and consistently fall farther and farther behind) of new instructional technologies.

Aside from moodle I really like the underlying purpose of the online quiz (my moodle activity was online cheating) and the idea that assessment can be used effectively for instruction. This was a great illustration of that.

Lets see, I learned about myself that I am not the community member I perhaps should be – perhaps I should have reached out more to the less active members of my group.

Other areas of progress include an increase in my confidence that I can progress to the standard set here for facilitation of online discussion, at least with my graduate students. The intro students (freshmen and sophomores) are very, very hard to engage in online discussion, but some of the strategies here may well work in the future as I try to increase their engagement.

Thanks for another great week!

Greg
